Apr 17, 2017  This guide is for the original PC version of Skyrim, not the Special Edition. The original game has the best selection of mods. Some might be available for the Special Edition too (and a few are also on the Xbox One and PS4 versions), but the original PC game is still the way to go if you want to customize your experience.

If you're looking to start a new game of Skyrim, you've got plenty of options for how to play as different versions of the legendary Dragonborn. You can play as a different race, or different class, or give yourself different motivations or a new backstory. Even playing the same questlines again, you can have a fresh experience. But better yet, you can ditch the role of Dragonborn altogether. Why not make this next playthrough about a completely different person—not the hero of prophecy but someone else entirely? Here are five great mods for playing Skyrim as a character other than the Dragonborn. For many, many more ways to play Skyrim, check out our guide to the.

Alternate StartThis is no news flash: Anyone who's dipped their toe into modding Skyrim will most likely have heard of Alternate Start, even if they haven't tried it. And if you haven't, you really should.Alternate Start lets you skip the opening sequence and create a character living in Skyrim for a different reason. Maybe you've arrived by boat with a few basic supplies or maybe you're a homeowner with a house and plenty of belongings. Maybe you're a random commoner visiting an inn, or an outlaw hiding at a camp in the wilderness, a soldier in the army, or even a vampire living in a secluded lair.

These are just a few of the many intriguing options available in the mod.The nice thing is, if you do want to start the main quest at some point, you still can. Just start asking around about rumors with innkeepers, and one of them will mention Helgen. At that point you can kick off the main quest. Interesting NPCsIf you're not the Dragonborn, romping all over the world completing quests and slaying dragons, you're going to find yourself spending more time among the locals. And in the vanilla game, many of them aren't especially fascinating characters—especially if you've met them before in a prior playthrough. The Interesting NPCs mod adds new backstories, dialogue trees, and custom voice acting to give Skyrim's citizens far more depth and personality. Many even have new quests, and some can become your followers—there are even a few you can marry.Live AnywhereIf you're not the brave and mighty Dragonborn, you're going to miss out on a few perks of celebrity, like people giving you houses to live in. Some homes come to you through quests and some you can buy, but the Live Anywhere mod will let you build your own house pretty much wherever you'd like. It's a humble home, to be sure, but there's something pleasant about not living in a big city and being able to choose any location in the game you find appealing to call your home.

HunterbornMaybe you won't be slaying dragons, but considering how hostile the wildlife in Skyrim is, you'll probably be slaying something. So, you might want to make hunting and killing animals a bit more immersive than just treating their bodies like containers that hold a few scraps of loot.Hunterborn adds new actions when you have killed an animal. You can pick up the body, field dress it, or loot it manually. It adds skinning, butchering, harvesting, and carcass disposal.

Nov 01, 2017  This is a replacer. Not standalone. You will have to cycle through KS Hair to find the recolored hair. Thankfully Kalilies put them in alphabetical order so they're not too difficult to find. Changing the hair color does/can change the hue of the original color I put on the hair texture. Just go through the hair colors and find a hue you want:). Oct 07, 2017  Elder race For Skyrim Special edition: Erik the Slayer - Improved and marriable: Erik Vargtass the Viking save game. It also provides a skill system by assuming you are not naturally an expert hunter or butcher, plus special weapons and tools, new alchemical ingredients, cooking recipes, and lots more. You won't even miss dragon shouts when you're the Hunterborn. NPC BarteringA big part of roleplaying is imposing restrictions on yourself. Skyrim makes it easy to get around the world via fast-travel, but if you want to feel like a real citizen of the world, you may choose to travel from place to place without shortcuts. This means if you find yourself in need of a particular item and you're far from a town or city, it can be a real undertaking to reach the closest merchant.NPC Bartering, however, lets you trade with any NPC you meet, which is not only helpful for roleplayers but feels reasonably realistic. You can't buy the clothes off their back, but you can trade for anything else they might have.

Welcome to the ROLEPLAY series. These mods are merely save games intended to be used for players who want a unique experience from the ground up. In a way, this is sort of like a live another life mod except the character you start out as has a specific play-style and role-playing aspects!NOTE: This is NOT an overpowered build! While I recommend playing at higher difficulties, it will still present a challenge to many players, particularly if you are using mods that add more enemies and/or make the game more challenging and fun!Easy InstallMove save file in the zip folder to This PCDocumentsMy GamesSkyrim Special EditionSavesDone! The Dread KnightSKILLS STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES HOW TO PLAY BACKSTORYbeginning level: 10SkillsThe Dread Knight prides himself on his ruthless melee tactics and his proficiency with reanimating the corpses of his victims. Since his conception, the Dread Knight was bound to the plains of Oblivion in envy of the Daedric Princes. He was born with an immaculate lust for power - a greed that festered within him. He believed that the epitome of power was to become a Daedric Prince himself.

It became clear to him that in order to achieve his goals, he would need to overthrow one of the Princes and take their place. In the days of the Dread Knights greatest power, it was Sheogorath himself who banished the Dread Knight to the mortal world in fear of his festering strength. Little did the Prince of Madness know, the Dread Knight had a plan.In the years before his banishment, the Dread Knight sought a new power beyond the realm of Oblivion. It was the coming of the age of the Dragonborn and the Dread Knight grew envious of the great power the Dragonborn possessed. He was also maliciously fascinated by gold. In his observations of the mortal world, the most powerful were also the most wealthy. Knowing that his banishment was coming, the Dread Knight prepared a ritual that would permanently transport his soul into a mortal form.

Once banished, he was able to conjure himself into a Dark Elf with the ability to trap the souls of dragons to fuel his power. This ability would allow the Dread Knight to impersonate a Dragonborn in the lands of Skyrim while the real Dragonborn would never know his or her true powers.Life in the Plains of Oblivion is far different from life in the Fields of Tamriel. The Dread Knight carried all but his physical appearance to the mortal world; taking with him his envious anger, his morbid fascination with power, and his ruthlessness with him. Any chance to gain money and power is a risk worth taking to the Dread Knight.

In his struggle to gain respect and honor among the mortals, he often finds interactions difficult as his instinctive anger tends to consume him. Rightfully so, victory in battle fills him with a tempered ecstasy, often causing him to make a habit of executing his reanimated minion just to be able to kill them twice! In his mad hunt for power, the Dread Knight wants desperately to build his power and fame at all costs. To do so, he may join the Imperials with hopes of assassinating the Queen and taking her place. Or he may join the Stormcloaks and capture Skyrim in him name. The Daedric morality of the Dark Brotherhood makes the Dread Knight feel at home again and entices him to join them - mostly just for the fun of murdering the weak and building his power.

Whatever path he chooses, the Dread Knight does his best to fulfill the role of a Dragonborn and gain as much power as possible in the lands of Skyrim. The only thing more impressive than becoming a Prince of the Daedra is becoming the Overlord of Tamriel.RecommendationsWhile this technically does not require any mods, it will work best with the following.I would love to hear from you if you end up doing a play-through with this character!
